Football and Playtime

Since it's 11:26 pm and I'd rather be sleeping than writing, this is going to be a short, somewhat disconnected post with some pictures.

Patric didn't think our current football setup was good enough, so he talked me in to buying a TV for our deck.  The lack of sleep must really be getting to me...  Here's James enjoying the new setup:

We tried out a new outfit from E this past week.  I'm really liking the long sleeves on James!

I also have a bone to pick with Carhartt.  I put James in his Carhartt bibs, and the picture below is the result.

Just in case you aren't following, let me spell it out.  James not only poohed though his diaper, and his onesie, but he also managed to get it to go through his Carhartt bibs (that appear to be made of some really thick canvas) and then through the top padded layer of his swing into the bottom layer and I had to wash ALL OF IT.  His swing was out of commission for a good 3 hours, but luckily he was content with watching TV on our bed and napping:

Great Grandma Crider and Aunt Kay are visiting this week, and Grandma and Grandpa Leuschke are up here this weekend while we attend our friends' wedding, so I'll have plenty more pictures to post!

James' Two-Month Appointment

Today James had his two-month doctor's appointment, complete with his first full round of shots (he did get one shot of his Hep B vaccine at the hospital).  He did amazingly well, and it's true what they say - it was harder on me than on him!  He had three shots and one oral vaccine, and cried for only a minute or so afterwards and then was fine.
All naked getting ready for our checkup!
We got all new measurements at this appointment:
Height: 23.5" (69th percentile)
Weight: 12 lbs 14 oz (78th percentile)
Head Circumference: 15.4" (27th percentile)
I do have an * for the Head Circumference measurement.  We still have some head-shape issues.  You can't really tell straight-on, but from the top of his head down, there is a very pronouced slant.  Dr. B didn't seem too concerned today, but did say that if we were concerned, we could go to the lop-sided head specialists at Gilette in St. Paul.  I think the full name is something like "Infant Skull Shaping Therapist... at Gilette", but Dr. B was happy to call them the "lop-sided head specialists" and I am going to follow suit.  Anyways, if he didn't have the head shape issues, I think he'd be in a higher percentile.

Here are some pictures to compare his size - James is in carseat on the way home from the hospital 2 months ago and James in his carseat today.

James - 9/10-9/16

James turned 8 weeks on Monday, 9/12.

We had a HUGE weekend right before that.  My MoH E came up for the weekend, and family friends N & B with their kids L & M were also staying at our house.  We did another big football day on Saturday, which required E and I to run to the grocery store and liquor store on Friday night.  I didn't think anything of it when Patric asked us to take James, but after the grocery store, we realized we were going to have to actually take James in to the liquor store (can't really leave him in the car, can we?).  Here's his liquor store trip:

The rest of the weekend was a blast.  I shouldn't go into details, but I did a "Mommy's Night Out" with B & E at the Shout House that was AMAZING.  The next day was not so amazing.

Last night (9/15) James got a bath.  We've been lucky that he enjoys bath time - here are a few pics:

Woo Hoo Bath Time!

Mom!  I'm a Lobster!
We also tried on some new outfits this week.

My Carhartt Bibs and Hoodie
My Pooh overalls (that's a blurry Winnie the Pooh on his left knee)
I'll be sure to add a post on Monday for his two-month appointment.  The exciting part: weight, length and head circumference measurements.  The not-so-exciting part: 4 shots and an oral vaccine.

The Scale

Three days shy of James' two-month birthday and the scale and I are friends again.  I jumped on it this morning prior to weighing James and, oh yes indeed, my pre-pregnancy weight flashed before my eyes.  But I have one question - WHY DO MY PRE-PREGNANCY CLOTHES STILL NOT FIT???

Labor Day Weekend

We had a fun Labor Day weekend here at the Leuschke House.

On Friday, our friend B came in to town to stay with her husband N, who stays with us while he's on reserve in MSP.  It was her "mom-cation" or first time away from her daughter M (6m) and son L (4y).  When I called her on my way to the liquor store, her immediate response was "wine, red".

The next morning (Saturday), we had friends over for football.  Most of James' hawkeye gear pictures are on a previous post, but here is one of Patric and James:

I love my Daddy and I love the Hawkeyes!
However, the KU gear didn't go over as well...
But I don't like the crimson and blue!
Okay, as long as we add a green binkie to the mix.  PS  - we may need a bigger size for basketball season :)
Sunday was uneventful, but Monday Patric took us to a local RC (remote control) flying field in Shakopee so he could fly his model airplanes.  It was nice to watch him working on his hobby, and it was a gorgeous day to be outside.  However, I must comment on some of the other flyers.  These two older gentleman were flying, and it's common courtesy to yell out when you are taking off or landing, so that's what I thought these guys were doing, but upon paying more attention, I realized they were doing military commentary while flying.  At one point, the first guy was doing one of those almost landing where the plane just touches the landing strip and then takes-off again and the other guy called "I'll fly cover for you!" and he flew about 10 feet over the first airplane.  I kinda stared in disbelief at them but then realized they'd probably been doing this for several years and were enjoying re-living their past military experiences.  And then I laughed because it was kind of cute.  Here are some pics of Patric, plane, and James.

Then late on Monday, we had to change outfits, so we figured we'd see if James favored any other countries besides the US:

Hm, I'm not sure yet...
YES!  I do like Australia :)  Thanks Braz!

Football - Go Hawks!

Go Hawks!  M & J must have a sixth sense, because they picked out the perfect size outfit to start Hawkeye Football Season.  And look how happy he is to be a Hawkeye!  Based on his growth, though, we may need one size up to finish out the season/bowl games.  Or maybe he'll be in the 12m jersey M & J got us by then?

James' Hawkeye Outfit - thanks M & J
Yes, I love the Hawkeyes!

I don't think Patric showered for this picture :)
