A Day in the Life of... James with an Ear Infection

A milestone I was not waiting for hit us this past week: Wednesday, February 22, 2012 - James' First Ear Infection, followed by James' First Trip to Urgent Care.

That day went something like this...

"Mommy, I don't feel good, FEED ME!"

"Mommy, my ear hurts, let's cuddle!"

"Look Mommy, I can stand up!"

(Yes, this was a first as well)

"Mommy, I'm exhausted!"

(His arm is actually around his teddy - he fell asleep sitting up while cuddling his teddy)

Five days later, with the help of Tylenol and amoxicillin, he's back to his normal self.

My Birthday

I meant to post this thank you sooner, but here it is - THANK YOU, PATRIC, FOR A WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY...

It started with this:

And then we dropped him off with friends for the night:

And Patric surprised me with reservations at Manny's (a steakhouse in downtown Mpls) for this:

Except I actually got steak (silly Patric for getting crab legs at a steakhouse, even though they were delicious - and your server opens the crab legs for you!)

And since we had such a good time, I asked him if he wanted to do drinks afterwards:

Finally, we ended the night with my present:

Love you, honey!

Happy Seventh Month Birthday, James!

Height: 28.5" (90th Percentile)

Weight: 18.8 lbs (50th Percentile)

Head Circumference: No idea, but James is helmet-free as of last week!  Yeah!

Clothing: 9 months.  Really loving the GapBaby 6-12 mo items because they are super stretchy and fit really well.

Food: 4 8-oz bottles per day, plus lunch and dinner with some version of baby mushy food.  Really like bananas and really any other fruit.  Not a fan of sweet potatoes, but seems to like squash.

Cool Tricks: In the past month, James has learned to get up on all fours, move from his belly to sitting, moved forward via an army crawl, and just yesterday, crawling.  He also loves to pull himself up to standing and can support all his weight while standing, but doesn't have the balance to stand on his own. Finally, he waved good-bye at daycare a few days ago!

Daycare: James loves daycare.  He smiles when he gets dropped off, smiles when he gets picked up, brings home new tricks everyday, like finding his feet or waving bye, and his teachers say that they enjoy having him.  Along the lines of daycare, our puppy Sam has also taken an interest in "babysitting" James.  Sam will lay near James while he's playing and corral James when he strays to far from his toys; I'm sure it has more to do with Sam not wanting James near Sam's chew toys than protecting James, but it's still cute to watch.

Seven Months

Up on all fours!

James' First Restaurant High Chair Experience

James decided he was too good for his infant seat anymore, so we swore off eating out for 2 months and bought two convertible car seats, one for each car.  One car seat is at least 5 dinners at El Loro or 2 date nights, so we are going to be cooking at home a lot more.  Okay, fine, I'm somewhat lying.  Grandma Andy and Grandpa Brad chipped in and bought one of the car seats and Patric could never go without El Loro for more than 5 days.  And I can't cook.

ANYWAYS, we got the new car seats and then realized that every trip out with James was going to be so much more exciting.  If you don't have an infant seat, your baby actually has to sit in a high chair or ride in the front of the shopping cart.  By themselves.  Without the protections of an infant seat.  It was an interesting week or two figuring that one out.  I mean, it's not like he just wants to sit up, facing one direction, not trying to escape for an hour-long dinner or grocery trip when he's been in his infant seat for 6 months.  And I also was under the impression those high chairs were meant to flip over and put infant seats on top of.  What?  You mean a child can actually sit in the other side?  Without a 20-pound carrier designed to protect them from every little bump or bruise?  No way!

So we tried the high chair, and here's some pictures of James' first restaurant high chair, at the Mongolian Grill.  I'm sure we were tagged as the "first-time parents" seeing as we had about 4 blankets in the high chair with him.
