Birth Story
Hayden arrived at 7:49 AM on a Wednesday after 4 hours of labor. (If James was 12 and Hayden was 4, I'm pretty sure we're having a home birth for number 3...) Sam, our Shiba Inu, rudely woke us up at 3:20 AM that morning whining at the side of the bed. It is not unusual for him to whine in the middle of the night when something fun (read: rabbit) is outside, but this was slightly different, since his whine was aimed directly at us and not the window. After spending about 10 minutes trying to convince him to stop, my water broke, and we figured out what the fuss was about. We called our friend, who braved 10 degree weather at 3:30 AM to come over and watch James for a few hours before daycare, and got ready to go. My contractions started at about the same time we made it to Regions Hospital (maybe 4:15 AM). We checked in, got my IV started to prep for my epidural, spent an hour waiting to get through the IV fluids, got my epidural, relaxed for about 15 minutes, and then started pushing. Hayden was born 45 minutes later.
